Standing on a hill in khaki pants and a button down seersucker shirt amid a thick haze of smoke and punk regalia, I realized just how out of place I was. I had a grand total of zero experience shooting concert photography, very little music photography experience, and only the most fleeting of experiences with the punk scene. How had I even gotten in the door?
Some of my Aftershock, 2014 photos reflect that inexperience. In retrospect, there are some things (certain focal lengths and apertures, various shooting angles and locales) that I wish I had done differently. But the best of my images from this event – rough edges and all – capture a degree of action and drama that I feel reflects well of the work and the subjects captured.
